You  may remember Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman from their work with Prince & The Revolution. You can see them in the film ‘Purple Rain’, standing either side of the pint-sized funk flaneur during his climactic performance of the title tune. More than mere accompaniment for Prince’s project, they had a significant influence on his musical direction during that period when he moved from straight disco-funk to…well, Prince. They have never stopped writing and performing, even touching the charts in the early ’90s with a few hits of their own. Ten Year Vamp

Ten Year Vamp

“In the past year (since we signed up with you), you helped us make direct contact with some licensing companies, bloggers, podcasts, music review sites and more.  The best part was that since you made the initial contacts for us, we only had to spend time with the people/places that were interested in our music. Thanks to that, we received TONS of fantastic reviews, which helped open the door to everything below:

In the past 8 months:
We’ve directly opened for Bon Jovi, The Gin Blossoms, Sean Kingston, Jason Derulo, Antigone Rising, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Company of Thieves, and Matt & Kim.
We will be opening for Aerosmith on Aug 26 at the New York State Fair. We will also be opening for One Republic and Everclear at upcoming festivals and headlining an Octoberfest at the Great Escape in Lake George NY.
We had one of our songs, Pleasures (That I Call Mine), used on MTV’s The Real World: New Orleans. They used almost a full minute of the song with vocals during the first 5 minutes of the show.
We’ve licensed a song to the Adobe Corporation.
We’ve licensed a song to Dockers Jeans.

And more…!

My record is not the easiest sell as it is instrumental music but they did a great job of getting it out there to Internet radio and made nice presence online about the project. Ariel has a clear vision of where the music industry is headed. Highly recommended.”

Sunna Gunnlaugs

Sunna Gunnlaugs

Bridging the Brooklyn-Reykjavik jazz divide with European elegance and a fiery, New York drive.

The Washington Post described her music as possessing “such timeless virtues as lyricism and grace… elegantly bridges soul-searching passages with uncluttered swing.” On her latest CD, “Songs from Iceland” she confirms that assessment by re-imagining 5 Icelandic folk-songs for jazz quartet, adding new perspective to Time Out New York’s statement that Gunnlaugs is “proof that jazz is as much a part of the picture as the pop of Björk or SigurRos.” Her next recording is scheduled for June in New York amidst US tour-dates.

Equally influenced by such American pianists as Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, and Scandinavians like Bobo Stenson and Jon Balke, Sunna has found a way to make music to which people on both sides of the Atlantic can relate. Her own charming brand of romantic lyricism soaring over a driving American rhythm section appeals to jazzers and non-jazzers alike.

“Gunnlaugs proves that jazz can have a wider appeal without losing integrity.”– All About Jazz

Dysfunctional Family Jazz Band

Dysfunctional Family Jazz Band

For Patty, Melissa, Scotty, and Travis, it really is a family affair. This foursome stretches their biological connections through to their creative tissue as the Dysfunctional Family Jazz Band (DFJB), an incomparable collective with a Jazz/Americana/Soul/Folk sound that, by all reasonable accounts, functions quite nicely, thank you. As the history of their marvelous and complex family relationships comes out in their music, it is clear that this is a community, a truly relational organism. The way they work, the way they live, and the way they make music is an expression of family, through and through.

“ With its artful musical mix of jazz, rock, folk, funk, blues, reggae, soul, bossa and more, and its equally easy lyrical turns from serious to sublime, the new CD Come Over does pose problems-at least for people who try to categorize it. Actually, if there’ s one bin the CD doesn’ t belong in, its the one marked “ dysfunctional.” Come Over is a CD on which all the pieces fit; one whose diverse songs tell an engaging, coherent story. It’ s a seasoned, soulful work with depth and real feeling to go with strong chops. It is emotionally rich without being contrived; grown up and serious but still with time to dream and dance. It’ s consistent right down to the cover – Joan Peters’ painting of two coffee mugs side by side speaks of a warm invitation for two friends to spend some time together.”

Outasight

Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, Outasight (Richard Andrew) was brought up by a mother who decorated the walls with records and a guitar playing father. Constantly moving from apartment to apartment never gave him a true sense of home, but Outasight always found comfort in music. Alice Smith

Alice Smith

“Recently turned 29, Smith is, on the evidence of her solo debut, ‘For Lovers, Dreamers & Me’ (BBE Records), the most promising female singer-songwriter to go her own enrapturing way in a very long time. Her voice, with its four-octave range, is luscious and powerful and nuanced and finely sensitive to rhythm. Yet it never makes a cult of its own abilities; for all its fantastic manners, Smith’s voice gets on down the road. Sometimes she sings with a booming intensity, yet Smith never loses the unlearnable balance and poise that separates good singers from great ones. And her basic attitudes, which are audible in every unforced phrase she negotiates, are all her own.”

Carrie Rodriguez

Carrie Rodriguez

Pigeonhole Carrie Rodriguez at your peril. Sure, she’s done a lot of duets. She plays a fiddle. (a mean one at that.) She’s recorded songs with a pleasing, folksy twang.

Manafest

Manafest

Manafest didn’t start writing lyrics until he was 18 and up to that point spent a lot of time perfecting his skating technique. One of the stand out songs from his latest release THE CHASE is “No Plan B.” This is a term he and his friends used while riding the cement waves. He sings “It’s too late, it’s my fate, there’s no turning back. There’s no fear in the mirror to hold me down. And I know that this road is my destiny. I’ve got to stick to the plan cause there’s no Plan B.” This song pays homage to of the classic punk bands like Bad Religion and some modern day rockers like Green Day. Formed in 2003 by husband and wife team Norman and Heather Jones, Rhythm Child’s mission is to encourage children to create soulful music and percussion, while also building their self confidence. “Eat a Bowl of Cherries” the group’s latest release, proves that not all children’s music needs to be hyperactive and saccharin sweet. In fact, it can be naturally, genuinely sweet—just like a real life bowl of cherries. Style-wise, Rhythm Child sounds more like Otis Redding than Alvin and the Chipmunks, an innovation that will delight children and parents alike.

Melissa Ferrick

Melissa Ferrick

Melissa Ferrick could blow her own horn quite well _ a flugelhorn to be exact _ if she chose. Instead, she expresses her creative spirit with an acoustic guitar.

Since the early 1990s, the accomplished singer-songwriter from New England has compiled a solid string of sonically strong, lyrically rich studio albums.

Her widely praised 2006 album “In the Eyes of Strangers” fulfilled the rock ‘n’ roll essence that Ferrick has long harbored and drawn inspiration. But just when it seemed she would take a hard plunge into a more layered, instrumentally diverse sound, she returned to the studio to produce perhaps her most intimate, stripped-down album to date, her ninth studio effort “Goodbye Youth.”

Hot designer SoHung Tong (creator of unique looks for Beyonce and Fergie) customized a must-see piece, and motor-cross world record breaker, Shane San Miguel, lent his skills as the musical short’s daredevil nemesis.

Sharon Gannon

Sharon Gannon

The co-founder of the pivotal Jivamukti yoga method, she’s known worldwide as an influential teacher and advisor, and continues to help legions of students gain enlightenment via her own classes and those at Jivamukti-affiliated schools and centers around the globe, as well as through books and instructional DVDs. In truth, however, Sharon is a 21st-century Renaissance woman, one who excels in many disciplines, such as dance, writing, poetry, painting, cooking, and political activism. But before everything else—even yoga—her first medium is, and has always been, music.

Hot Buttered Rum

Hot Buttered Rum, one of the hardest-working and fastest-rising acts in acoustic rock, began in the San Francisco Bay Area with a lineup full of uniquely talented singer-songwriter/instrumentalists setting out to create a new Northern California sound. The Bay Area claims credit for producing dozens of bands, from Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, and Old and In the Way, to the Mother Hips, Green Day, Metallica, and beyond. From this fertile ground sprang Hot Buttered Rum’s own infectious blend of American styles—folk, rock, jazz, and newgrass—all informed by the landscape of their home.

Kelly RIchey

Kelly Richey has been described as “Stevie Ray Vaughan trapped in a woman’s body with Janis Joplin screaming to get out.” That’s an apt appraisal of the Lexington, Kentucky native who’s been based in Cincinnati for many years. Richey has often been compared to such greats as Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan because of her ability to capture and entertain an audience with ripping guitar leads that both sing and astonish.

Sugar Blue

Sugar Blue

Grammy Award-winning harmonica virtuoso Sugar Blue is not your typical bluesman…
Born James Whiting – he was raised in Harlem, New York, where his mother was a singer and dancer at the fabled Apollo Theatre. He spent his childhood among the musicians and show people who knew his mother, including the great Billie Holiday, and decided that he wanted to be a performer.

Marshall Lawrence

Marshall Lawrence

Not many blues artists can call themselves “the Doctor of the Blues” without a whole stretcher-full of the idiom’s winking big talk. But Marshall Lawrence can, and with only the slightest bit of irony. The award-nominated Canadian bluesman actually holds a doctorate in psychology, and he knows how to use it—just as he knows how to use his slashing guitar, stinging, lightning-fast slide, and pleading, mournful moan: Marshall’s prescription for a maximum blues remedy.
